Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) NAFDAC branch has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike, which began on October 7, 2024. The decision follows a constructive meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Gatekeepers News reports the union’s strike was primarily aimed at addressing critical issues affecting NAFDAC staff, including demands for improved working conditions and resources. During the recent meeting, Ribadu recognized the essential role of NAFDAC in maintaining national security and public health. He assured union representatives that he would expedite the approval process for their demands and collaborate closely with the relevant authorities to provide necessary support.
Com. Salih Aledeh, Secretary of the MHWUN NAFDAC branch, expressed gratitude towards Ribadu for his intervention and commitment to resolving the union’s concerns. “NAFDAC staff hold him in high regard and are eager to see the positive outcomes of his promises,” Aledeh said. He praised the dedication and patience of NAFDAC staff throughout the strike, reinforcing the union’s commitment to fostering a cooperative and productive working environment.
Aledeh added, “We appreciate the National Security Adviser’s understanding of NAFDAC’s importance in maintaining national security and public health. We look forward to seeing tangible progress on our demands and are committed to working with the management to ensure a harmonious work environment.”
The suspension of the strike, effective for one month, marks a hopeful step towards resolving the outstanding issues between NAFDAC management and its staff. The union remains optimistic about a fruitful collaboration with management and other stakeholders moving forward.
To facilitate this process, all union members are directed to resume work on Monday, October 28, 2024.
This resolution is a positive sign for both NAFDAC’s staff and the broader public that relies on the agency’s critical services.
