Ogun state government has closed down Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-emi over the death of an SS2 student of the school, Monday Arijo.
Gatekeepers News reports that Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Lekan Adeniran announced this through a statement released on Tuesday.
The deceased student died last week Friday while being admitted at Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta after a teacher allegedly beat him 24 strokes of cane and asked him to perform 162 frog jumps.
The teacher who was been suspended and arrested reportedly flogged Arijo because of his response regarding a trash can brought to his classroom.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo was issued a query and suspended for allowing such punishment on students against the established rules and regulations in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun had ordered the closure of the school and directed that a panel be set up to investigate what led to the incident.
The Governor pledged that those found guilty by the investigation’s findings would be subject to the full force of the law.
