Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have re-arrested Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, a controversial social media personality and crossdresser, in Lagos.
Gatekeepers News reports that Bobrisky was re-arrested late Thursday night after he was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where he was reportedly attempting to travel to London, United Kingdom.
Bobrisky took to Instagram to inform his followers about his arrest, claiming that he sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officers. He further alleged that the EFCC was behind his detention.
He wrote, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
According to reports, his arrest follows his failure to respond to multiple invitations from the commission regarding his previous allegations against it.
In a voice note circulated by social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that he had bribed EFCC officers with ₦15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. The EFCC has since denied these allegations and established a committee to investigate the claims.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Wilson Uwajaren, the Director of Public Affairs for the EFCC, hinted that Bobrisky might face additional charges if his allegations against the commission are proven to be false. Uwajaren noted that providing false information to the EFCC is a prosecutable offence.
EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest on Friday morning.
