National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a refund of N4.48 billion to various entities, including State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the armed forces.
Gatekeepers News reports that this decision was communicated in a statement by Muhammad Musa, NAHCON’s Head of Public Affairs, indicating that the refunds stem from inadequate electricity services provided at Masha’ir by Saudi authorities during the 2023 Hajj.
In addition, N15 million has been refunded to 192 accredited tour companies, which is intended for distribution to their respective pilgrims, with further payments to other companies anticipated following reconciliation.
Each pilgrim is entitled to a refund of N61,080 and is encouraged to contact their state welfare boards, commissions, or tour operators to facilitate the claim process.
Musa also urged individuals planning to embark on the 2025 Hajj to deposit their fares promptly with their state welfare boards, ensuring that arrangements can be made in compliance with Saudi Arabian guidelines.
The spokesperson reaffirmed NAHCON’s commitment to transparency under the leadership of its chairman, Abdullahi Saleh.
“In the interest of due process, NAHCON calls upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other security agencies to monitor the refund process,” the statement reads.
“This collaboration aims to ensure that all refunds reach the intended beneficiaries without discrepancy.”
