Fire Guts Yobe Market

There was an inferno at Bayan Tasha market in Damaturu, capital of Yobe state on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that more than fifty shops were destroyed by the fire which began around 2 am after electricity was restored to the area, at a time all the shops were closed.

Prompt Intervention of fire service personnel prevented the fire from spreading to residential areas.

According to an official of the state fire service, named withheld; the fire was put out following a distress call.

Executive Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mohammed Goje during an on-site assessment, sympathised with affected traders and assured them of the government’s support in addressing the losses.

The exact cause of the inferno is yet to be known at the time of filing this report.
