Twelve persons have tragically died from carbon monoxide poisoning at the Gudauri ski resort in Georgia, as reported by local police.

Gatekeepers News reports that the victims include 11 foreign nationals and one Georgian, whose bodies were discovered in a sleeping area situated above a restaurant within the resort.

Preliminary investigations indicate that there are no signs of violence on the bodies, suggesting the incident was accidental.

Authorities noted that an oil-powered generator had been activated after the building experienced a power outage on Friday.

The discovery of the bodies occurred on Saturday on the second floor of a structure that houses an Indian restaurant.

Police have initiated an investigation, although the identities of the deceased have not yet been disclosed.

Gudauri, located in the Caucasus mountains in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region at an elevation of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet), is renowned as a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. It offers a variety of winter sports activities suitable for all skill levels and has a history dating back to the 19th Century when it served as a trading post along the ancient Georgian Military Road that connects Russia and Georgia.

The resort is situated about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
