Clinical Sinner Beats Zverev To Retain Australian Open Title

Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open title on Sunda.

Gatekeepers News reports that Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 in a dominant performance.

The 23-year-old Italian became the first Italian to win three Grand Slam singles titles, surpassing Nicola Pietrangeli and joining the ranks of tennis legends like Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic as the only men to successfully defend their Melbourne Park titles.

Despite a strong showing in the second set, Zverev, still in search of his first Grand Slam, fell short again in his third big final.

In a post-match speech, Sinner praised his team saying, “ “We worked a lot to be again in this position. It’s an amazing feeling to share this moment with all of you.”

He also consoled Zverev saying, “A tough day for you. You’re an amazing player. Keep believing in yourself because I think we, all the players, and the coaches, whoever is involved in the sport, know how strong you are, not only as a player but also as a person.”

“So keep it up. Keep working hard because we all believe that you can lift one of these very, very soon.”
