Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has addressed the controversy over the visa denial of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
Gatekeepers News reports the high commission, however, refrained from providing details on reasons for its action due to “privacy reasons”.
The CDS and other top military officers were supposed to be in Canada for an official assignment on Wednesday but were denied visas.
The authority on its social media handle, said, “The High Commission of Canada in Nigeria is aware of media reports related to planned travel by senior officials. However, for privacy reasons, we are unable to comment on the status of visa applications of specific individuals.”
Earlier on Thursday, Musa had during the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies in Abuja, expressed his displeasure over the incident.
He said it was another reminder that Nigeria needs to “stand on its own, stand strong as a nation and should no longer be taken for granted.”
Also, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior while speaking on Friday in an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, said the action was disrespectful to Nigeria as a whole.
