Pope Francis has shared an audio message with worshippers, marking his first communication since being admitted to the hospital in February.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the message, delivered in his native Spanish, was recorded at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where the 88-year-old pope has been receiving treatment for double pneumonia.

In the audio message shared with worshippers at the start of the evening Rosary prayer in St Peter’s Square, Pope said: “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for my health from the Square, I am with you from here.

“May God bless you and the Virgin protect you. Thank you.”

As the recording played for the congregation, the worshippers responded with applause.

Earlier, the Vatican reported that the Pope’s condition has stabilised compared to previous days, offering a positive update on his health.
