Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, as a public holiday to permit residents to mourn the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London at the age of 83.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the decision was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, on Sunday evening.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, according to the statement, made the decision to allow the citizens of Katsina State, the late president’s home state, to observe the day for reflection and prayer in his memory.

“The Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has declared Monday, 14th July 2025, as a work-free day in the State. This follows the demise of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died earlier this evening of today (13th July 2025) in London,” the statement read.

Governor Radda extended his condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large, describing the former leader as a patriot who committed his life to public service.

He urged citizens to join in praying for Buhari’s soul and for his admittance into Aljannatul Firdaus.
