National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to party members against endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027 general election.
Gatekeepers News reports that the warning follows growing instances of prominent PDP figures publicly supporting President Tinubu’s potential re-election bid.
Among them are Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and members of the PDP Osun State caucus.
In a statement released on Friday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party condemned these endorsements, stressing that they violate the provisions of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017), particularly Section 10 (6), which prohibits acts that undermine the party.
The statement reads, “Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.”
Ologunagba noted that such activities have already caused internal strife, dissatisfaction among members, and weakened party cohesion, trends that could ultimately harm the PDP’s electoral prospects.
To address the situation, the NWC, invoking Section 59 (1) of the party’s constitution, issued a strong warning to those involved. It cautioned that if these members fail to cease their actions, they will face severe disciplinary measures.
Ologunagba said, “Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP leading to division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.”
“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution.”
The party urged its members to remain steadfast, uphold party discipline, and work assiduously toward ensuring a successful national convention scheduled for November.
