“I Am Under Pressure To Defect To APC”— Gov Mutfwang

Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has revealed that he is being urged by political figures to leave Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gatekeepers News reports that speaking at an event over the weekend at the Government House Banquet Hall in Jos, Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the PDP, stressing that only divine guidance and the will of Plateau citizens would influence any political move he makes.

He said, “It is true that they have been putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people. Have you asked me to go anywhere?” The crowd responded with a resounding “No.”

His statement follows recent speculation about his possible defection, which APC leadership in Plateau has already dismissed.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Jos, the party rejected a motion proposing Mutfwang’s potential entry, saying they preferred to strengthen their ranks without external additions.

Responding to the rejection, Mutfwang described it as unnecessary, insisting that those spreading rumours of defection were doing so out of fear.

He said, “Those who are rejecting me for what I didn’t even ask for are wasting their time. The truth is, 60 to 70 percent of APC members in Plateau would be happy to have us join them, but they know I won’t, that’s why they’re twisting things.”

The Governor added that he would not be distracted by such rumours, describing the issue as “a story for another day.”
