Senate Approves Bernard Doro As Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs

The Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 21.

Gatekeepers News reports that Doro’s appointment follows the election of Nentawe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

During the session, Doro responded to questions from Abdul Ningi, senator representing Bauchi Central, and Tahir Monguno, senator representing Borno North. Doro said he would prioritise transparency and efficiency in humanitarian service delivery.

He said, “I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is efficient, that is transparent, and that is centred on the person that is being cared for.”

“This is with a view to bringing dignity to the individual, to ensuring that the needs of this individual are met, and this will be done based on principles that are well established in providing humanitarian action — things around impartiality.”

The minister also promised to strengthen collaboration among government agencies to eliminate duplication and improve outcomes.

He said, “I will create synergy amongst the different agencies of government and ensure that we are able to reduce duplication and achieve results. I believe that technology can help us to be able to achieve that.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio conducted a voice vote, and the lawmakers unanimously confirmed the nomination. After the confirmation, Akpabio congratulated Doro for his performance before the Senate.

He said, “I congratulate the nominee who has put forth such very excellent qualifications for his confirmation today by the Nigerian senate as the minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

“I wish you well, and I congratulate Mr President for searching for our sons and finding them wherever they are to bring them into the service of the nation.”
