NDLEA Intercepts Air Force Personnel Transporting Weapons To Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested a Nigerian Air Force personnel, ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai, for allegedly transporting firearms to Abuja.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Fakai was intercepted at about 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday at Kabba Junction, Lokoja. He is attached to the 107 AIR Maritime Group on Airport Road, Benin, Edo State, and was reportedly found in possession of two pump-action guns and a Browning pistol.

During preliminary interrogation, Fakai allegedly confessed that he was transporting the weapons to Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, who is attached to the Police Headquarters in Abuja and serves as an orderly to a Commissioner of Police. He further claimed that the guns had been handed over to him by Inspector Paul, posted to the Government House in Benin, Edo State.

Military findings also revealed that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, from 2015 to 2019.

According to a Special Situation Report, the suspect remains in custody along with the recovered firearms as further directives are awaited. Security authorities have not yet clarified whether additional personnel linked to the incident are being investigated or detained.

Cannabis Intercepted in Kogi

Earlier this week, troops of the 12 Brigade also intercepted a major consignment of cannabis being transported from Ekiti State to Kogi State.

The operation, the army said, is part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal networks and curb the movement of illicit substances that fuel banditry and violent crimes in the state.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lokoja, troops confirmed that they halted a courier conveying a significant load of Cannabis Sativa to Obajana, a community identified as a hotspot for criminal activities and home to the Dangote Cement factory.

The interception occurred on 24 November 2025 when soldiers at the Agbede Response Area carried out a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU.
