British‑Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious car crash on Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident claimed the lives of two people while Joshua was in Nigeria for the festive season following recent bout, survived with minor injuries.
The accident happened near Makun, close to Sagamu Interchange on the busy expressway in Ogun State. According to reports, the vehicle carrying Joshua, a Lexus SUV, collided with a stationary truck near a petrol station in the area.
Local officials and emergency teams, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were said to have arrived at the scene soon after the crash to manage the situation and begin investigations. Traffic was temporarily disrupted as responders worked to clear the wreckage.
A video footage obtained by Gatekeepers News shows Joshua at the scene amid the wreckage, appearing shaken but conscious. Despite the severity of the collision, the boxer escaped with minor injuries, while two others in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
Joshua nor his team is yet to issue an official statement regarding the accident.
