Nollywood film Behind The Scenes, produced by and starring Funke Akindele, has surpassed the ₦1.1 billion mark at the box office just 19 days after its release in cinemas.
Gatekeepers News reports that the milestone was announced on Monday through separate social media posts by Akindele and the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) page, the 48-year-old filmmaker expressed gratitude to fans and collaborators while confirming the film’s international rollout.
“Forever grateful to God and my fans. Thank you for the love and support over the years,” Akindele wrote.
“Big thanks to the distributors, cast, crew, and colleagues.
Behind The Scenes now showing in the UK and Ireland.”
In a separate post, FilmOne Entertainment described the achievement as historic, noting that the film had broken several box office records.
“Celebrating a massive milestone. We’re still wrapping our heads around this,” the distributor said.
According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes is now the fastest film in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion mark. The movie also recorded the highest single-day gross in the region, earning ₦129.5 million on Boxing Day.
The distributor further revealed that the film is currently the highest-grossing release of 2025. With the latest feat, Akindele has also become the only director to cross ₦1 billion at the box office three separate times.
FilmOne added that she is now Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time and the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion films within a single calendar year.
“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us,” the distributor said.
Behind The Scenes had earlier crossed ₦512 million in just 12 days, making it the fastest Nollywood film to hit the ₦500 million mark in 2025.
The film held advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide cinema release on December 12. It also recorded ₦200 million in its opening weekend, setting a new opening-weekend record for a Nollywood release in 2025, according to earlier reports by Guardian Life.
Centred on the theme of black tax, the film stars Scarlet Gomez and features an ensemble cast that includes Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni”, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki.
The movie is currently showing in cinemas across Nigeria and has expanded to the UK and Ireland, with its United States release scheduled for January 9.
