A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Femi Abodunrin, has said former Senate President Bukola Saraki is free to rejoin the ruling party whenever he chooses.
Gatekeepers News reports that Abodunrin, a former Nigerian ambassador to Cameroon, spoke amid growing speculation that Saraki, currently a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been holding talks with APC leaders and may be considering a return to the party.
The Kwara APC had earlier accused Saraki of playing dual politics by presenting himself as an opposition figure in the state while allegedly engaging with the ruling party at the federal level.
Addressing journalists in Offa on Saturday, Abodunrin said there is no restriction against Saraki at either the national or state level of the APC. He stressed that Saraki was among those who formed the party and therefore remains welcome.
He said, “Nobody can stop him (Saraku) from rejoining the party.”
“Saraki is a founding member of the APC. We all witnessed how he was brutally chased out of the party, despite his sacrifices and investments.”
Abodunrin said if Saraki decides to return, it would amount to going back to a party he helped to build. He also noted that many prominent figures who currently hold influence within the APC were first introduced to the party through Saraki.
