Lagos Assembly Passes N4.44 Trillion 2026 Budget Into Law

The Lagos State House of Assembly has approved a total of N4.44 trillion as the state’s budget for 2026.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the decision was taken during plenary on Thursday, presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who authorised the issuance and appropriation of the budget.

The budget, presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on November 25, 2025, was subsequently committed to the committee on appropriation, with other standing committees serving as sub-committees to scrutinise the ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) under their oversight.

During the plenary session, Sa’ad Olumoh, chairman of the committee on economic planning and budget, presented the committee’s report. According to the report:

  • N2.1 trillion was approved for recurrent expenditure.
  • N2.33 trillion was allocated to capital expenditure for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026.

The passage of the budget signals the legislative backing for the state government’s plans for the upcoming year, covering both operational costs and development projects across Lagos State.
