‘I’m a PDP Man’ — Bala Mohammed Rules Out Defection After Meeting Tinubu

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed speculation about leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu focused solely on governance and security collaboration.

reports that speaking after a closed-door session at the State House on Friday, Mohammed described rumours linking his visit to a possible party switch as unfounded.

“I am a PDP man. I am not here for politics or defection. I am here for governance and partnership,” he said.

The governor said he briefed the president on the worsening security situation in Alkaleri Local Government Area, where banditry has intensified due to ungoverned forest areas around Daji Dam. He explained that he personally visited affected communities alongside security officials, assessed the crisis, and submitted a detailed report requesting urgent federal intervention.

Mohammed added that President Tinubu responded positively and issued directives for immediate support. He also called for broader interstate cooperation against banditry, proposing a joint security summit involving Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe states.

On the issue of state police, the governor reiterated his long-standing support. He said while establishing state police is costly, it would reduce pressure on federal security forces and hold governors more accountable.

“We are very ready for state police. We have always supported it because it will reduce the burden on the Federal Government and make governors more responsive and accountable,” Mohammed said.
