Tambuwal Defects To ADC

Former Sokoto State Governor and serving senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Gatekeepers News reports that Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter dated March 11, 2026, which he addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State. In the letter, he said the decision followed “deep reflection and consultations” with political associates and supporters.

The senator, who represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, said the PDP had played an important role in his political journey but that current developments within the party made it necessary for him to move on.

Tambuwal previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives (2011–2015) and later as Governor of Sokoto State for two terms from 2015 to 2023 before returning to the National Assembly as a senator.

Reports indicate that his defection is linked to ongoing internal crises and leadership disputes within the PDP, which have triggered a series of political realignments across opposition parties in recent months.

The move also comes amid a growing trend of prominent politicians joining the ADC as part of an emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tambuwal’s exit adds to the PDP’s recent challenges, as the party continues to grapple with factional disputes and defections.
