African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced April 14 as the date for its national convention as part of a process to restructure and renew the party’s leadership across the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the party, said the exercise is part of the ADC’s constitutional requirement to refresh leadership structures at different levels of the organisation.
According to the timetable released by the party, the process will begin with polling unit and ward congresses scheduled for April 7. This will be followed by local government congresses on April 9, while state congresses are expected to take place on April 11.
The party said the activities will culminate in the national convention on April 14, where national officers are expected to emerge and lead the party going forward.
Abdullahi explained that the series of congresses are designed to strengthen internal democracy within the party and ensure that leadership at all levels reflects the will of members.
ADC also urged party members across the country to actively participate in the process and adhere to the party’s constitution and guidelines during the congresses.
The development comes as political parties across Nigeria begin preparations and internal restructuring ahead of future electoral contests.
