A member of House of Representatives from Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gatekeepers News reports that Dasuki, who represents the Tambuwal/Kebbe federal constituency of Sokoto State in the national assembly, formally announced his defection in a letter addressed to his ward leadership.
The lawmaker said his decision followed consultations with political associates and supporters, adding that the move was aimed at pursuing a new political direction. He also expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided during his political career.
Dasuki’s defection comes amid a wave of political realignments across Nigeria’s national assembly, with several lawmakers switching parties in recent weeks.
The move further reduces the number of PDP members in House of Representatives while boosting the ranks of ADC, a party that has recently attracted several high-profile politicians and lawmakers ahead of future political contests.
