Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday after a train operating on Kaduna–Abuja rail corridor was involved in a collision.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. while the train was travelling from Kaduna to Abuja. During the journey, the train collided with another unit on the same route, causing a sudden jolt that threw passengers against seats and metal fittings inside the coaches.

Some travellers reportedly suffered cuts and bruises during the impact. One passenger, Sada Malumfashi, described the moment on social media, saying the train came to an abrupt stop after a loud bang, which caused panic among those on board.

In a statement, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) disclosed that preliminary findings showed that the incident involved contact between a locomotive and a passenger coach during the journey.

The corporation added that injured passengers were immediately attended to and some were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities confirmed that no deaths were recorded.

Emergency response teams were deployed to the scene, while officials began an assessment of the situation. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau also visited the site to carry out further investigations into the incident.

Rail services on the route later resumed after the affected equipment was cleared, with the train eventually arriving at Idu station in Abuja with a delay of about 38 minutes.
