President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance at a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the swearing-in took place on Monday afternoon at the State House, days after the Senate confirmed his nomination for the position.
Oyedele’s appointment follows a cabinet reshuffle in which the former holder of the office, Doris Uzoka-Anite, was redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
Before his appointment, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body set up by the Tinubu administration to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system and strengthen revenue generation.
The economist and public policy expert brings decades of experience in taxation and fiscal policy to the role. He previously worked for over two decades at PwC, where he rose to become the firm’s fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader.
As minister of state, Oyedele is expected to support the finance ministry in implementing the government’s economic reforms, including measures aimed at improving tax administration, boosting revenue, and strengthening fiscal management.
His appointment comes as federal government continues efforts to restructure Nigeria’s tax system and broaden the country’s revenue base, which has long been considered one of the lowest relative to GDP globally.
Oyedele, a native of Ondo State, is also an academic and policy adviser who has worked with several institutions on fiscal and tax reform initiatives.
