The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of an estate allegedly constructed on land originally designated for park and recreational purposes in Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that Wike issued the directive on Monday during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) discovered that a developer had converted the land, located in the Guzape district, into a residential estate in violation of the Abuja master plan.

According to the minister, the land was specifically allocated for park and recreation, and any development outside that purpose was illegal. He stated that the buildings on the site had already been marked for demolition.

Wike stressed that the government would not tolerate the conversion of land designated for public use into private housing projects. “This place was given for park and recreation, not for the development of an estate. Nobody will allow that,” he said.

He also warned that the FCT administration would strictly enforce development regulations and ensure that the Abuja master plan is not compromised by illegal construction.

The minister added that appropriate approvals granted for the development would be revoked, while the FCTA’s development control department would proceed with the demolition of structures erected on the site.
