African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expanded its presence in the House of Representatives, gaining eight federal lawmakers who defected from other political parties in a significant wave of cross-carpeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that during plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the defection notices of the lawmakers who cited internal crises and leadership disputes in their former parties as reasons for their move to the ADC.
Among the defectors is George Ozodinobi, the deputy minority whip representing Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia Federal Constituency in Anambra State, who left Labour Party (LP) for ADC.
Other lawmakers from both the LP and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also made the switch, reflecting broader political realignments in the National Assembly.
The defections mark a notable shift in Nigeria’s legislative landscape, as the ADC, once a minor party in the lower chamber, continues to attract lawmakers dissatisfied with their former platforms.
