Ex-AGF Aondoakaa Resigns From APC

Michael Aondoakaa, a former attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Aondoakaa said he took the decision after “careful reflection and wide consultations” with his family, political associates and supporters.

In a statement, the former minister said his resignation from the ruling party took effect on March 28.

He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of the APC at different levels, but noted that “prevailing circumstances have made it necessary for me to take this step in the overall interest of my people and democratic values”.

“I wish to express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the visionary leadership he has continued to provide for our nation, as well as for the support and attention Benue State has enjoyed under his administration. I assure him of my continued loyalty to his Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.

He also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, for what he described as quality leadership within the APC in Benue State.

“Furthermore, I deeply appreciate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume, for the quality leadership he has provided to the APC family in Benue State. I acknowledge his role in shaping the political landscape of our dear state and assure him of my enduring respect,” he added.

Aondoakaa further thanked the leadership and members of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area and across Benue State for their support over the years.

“The relationships built and experiences gathered remain invaluable,” he said.

He urged his supporters and associates to “remain calm, peaceful, and steadfast,” adding that a new political direction would be announced soon.

“A new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue State in the best interest of our people will be communicated in due course,” he said.

Aondoakaa served as Nigeria’s minister of justice and attorney general of the federation between 2007 and 2010.
