A Federal High Court has convicted and sentenced four individuals found guilty of supplying logistics and materials to the terrorist group Boko Haram, as Federal Government begins the trial of about 500 suspected terrorism cases.

Gatekeepers News reports that the convicted individuals were prosecuted for providing support to insurgents, including the supply of items that aided terrorist operations. The court subsequently handed them jail terms under Nigeria’s terrorism laws.

The development coincides with the Federal Government’s renewed push to fast-track the prosecution of terrorism-related cases. Authorities have commenced fresh proceedings involving around 500 suspects, many of whom are accused of participating in or supporting insurgent activities in the country’s north-east.

The large-scale trial is part of broader efforts to tackle terrorism financing and dismantle support networks sustaining insurgent groups. Government officials said the move is aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring accountability for those linked to acts of terrorism.

The suspects are facing various charges ranging from direct involvement in terrorist activities to providing material support such as food supplies, logistics, and financial assistance to extremist groups.

The latest convictions and ongoing trials reflect the government’s intensified crackdown on terrorism and its backers, particularly as Nigeria continues to battle insurgency in parts of the country.

Legal authorities also noted that the trials will be conducted in phases to ensure efficiency and due process, given the large number of defendants involved.
