Several people are feared dead following an air strike that struck a busy market along the border of Borno State and Yobe State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Saturday at Dilli Market, located between Gubio LGA in Borno and Geidam LGA in Yobe, where traders and residents had gathered.

The strike was reportedly carried out during a military operation targeting suspected Boko Haram fighters operating in the area. However, civilians were caught in the attack, leading to multiple casualties and injuries.

Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed that an incident occurred at the market but said authorities are yet to establish the exact number of casualties. He noted that officers have been deployed in the area to investigate what actually happened.

He added, “Although the residents said it was an air strike by the air force that initially targeted Boko Haram terrorists, we cannot confirm that. Only the air force themselves can confirm it.”

“At this moment, we do not have confirmed casualty figures, especially because the incident also affected Borno.”

Emergency responders were deployed to the scene, while injured victims were taken to hospitals in Geidam and Damaturu for treatment.

Local sources indicated that the market may have been targeted because insurgents were reportedly present in the area to collect levies and supplies, though this has not been officially confirmed. .
