Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has warned residents against aiding, harbouring, or providing any form of support to Boko Haram insurgents.
Gatekeepers News reports that the warning follows recent military operations carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai in Jilli, a border community between Borno and Yobe states. The operation reportedly targeted areas suspected to be used by insurgents and their logistics networks.
Zulum described Jilli market as a notorious hub allegedly exploited by insurgents and their collaborators for supplies and coordination. He noted that the Borno State Government had already shut down the Jilli and Gazabure markets several years ago as part of efforts to cut off support channels to insurgents.
The Governor stressed that his administration works closely with the military and other security agencies before resettling communities or reopening markets, especially in conflict-prone areas. He added that such measures are necessary to prevent insurgents from infiltrating civilian spaces.
Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible intelligence that could assist ongoing counter-insurgency operations. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and restoring peace across the state.
The warning comes amid ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to curb insurgency in the northeast, where attacks by Boko Haram and its affiliates have persisted despite military operations and relative improvements in security in recent years.
