EFCC Nabs Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, days after he was convicted over a N33.8 billion fraud case linked to major power projects in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede announced that Mamman was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday in Rigasa, Kaduna State, after allegedly evading arrest following his conviction.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier sentenced the former minister to 75 years imprisonment after finding him guilty on 12 counts bordering on money laundering and diversion of public funds meant for the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects. The court also ordered the forfeiture of several properties and foreign currencies linked to him.

The anti-graft agency said two other individuals found with Mamman during the operation were also arrested for allegedly shielding him from law enforcement authorities. Investigators are currently probing the property where he was hiding.

Mamman served as minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari before he was removed during a cabinet reshuffle in 2021.
