Gunmen have abducted 10 persons from the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State during a late-night attack on the community.
Gstekeepers News reports that according to Kwara State Police Command, the attackers stormed the emir’s palace and the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters simultaneously at about 2am on Monday in what authorities described as a coordinated assault.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the gunmen succeeded in abducting 10 people from the palace but were repelled during the attack on the police station by security operatives on duty.
The incident comes barely 48 hours after another attack in Ekiti LGA of the state where three worshippers were reportedly killed and 15 others kidnapped at a prayer ground, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara.
The police said tactical teams, local vigilantes, forest guards and military personnel have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and track down the attackers. Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo also ordered an intelligence-led operation across the affected communities.
The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in Kwara communities, especially in border areas that have witnessed repeated cases of kidnappings and armed raids in recent months.
