Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun state, has openly declared support for the re-election of Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Gatekeepers News reports that Adeleke, while speaking during an inspection of ongoing work on the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway, described his endorsement of the president as a “moral and development-driven” decision aimed at protecting the interests of Osun state and the Yoruba people.
The governor said he had no difficulty supporting Tinubu, whom he referred to as “our own son, father and leader”.
“As governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President, how can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him?” Adeleke said.
He added that he felt privileged, alongside Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to witness an “illustrious son” of the Yoruba race leading the country.
Adeleke explained that his support for Tinubu goes beyond political affiliation, noting that the president’s backing for key infrastructure projects in Osun influenced his position.
He commended the pace and quality of work on the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway, saying the project would improve access to major communities across the state while complementing his administration’s infrastructure programme.
According to the governor, his administration has rehabilitated several federal roads since assuming office in 2022 and reconstructed more than 300 kilometres of state roads.
He also expressed optimism that the federal government would refund the state for repairs carried out on federal roads and revealed plans to seek approval for the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Ilesa road.
Adeleke further praised the president for approving the Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo and Gbongan-Akoda road projects.
Speaking on the forthcoming August 15 election in Osun, the governor assured residents of a transparent electoral process.
“With God and people, democracy shall triumph on August 15. President has repeatedly advocated free and fair elections,” he said.
“As a government, we will deploy all means within the law to ensure free and fair election on August 15 and beyond. We know and believe the President meant well for Osun state.”
