Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, insisting that the process was manipulated and lacked credibility.

Gatekeepers News reports that Amaechi described the results being announced by the party as “concocted”, alleging that widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice marred the exercise across several states. He maintained that he would only accept the outcome of a transparent and credible primary.

In a statement released after the primary, the former Rivers State Governor claimed that a large percentage of party members were prevented from voting, arguing that the exercise failed to reflect democratic standards expected from a party seeking to provide an alternative platform for Nigerians.

Amaechi also accused the ADC leadership of engaging in the same practices the opposition often condemns in other political parties, including alleged vote manipulation and suppression of voters. According to him, such actions could damage the party’s credibility ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development comes amid rising tension within the ADC following reports that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was leading in results announced from several states during the nationwide direct primary.

Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, another presidential aspirant, had earlier rejected the exercise and announced plans to boycott the official declaration of results over alleged rigging.
