Troops of Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist kingpin during an intelligence-led operation at the Shinkafi Weekly Market in Zamfara State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operation was reportedly carried out by personnel of the 8 Division Garrison following credible intelligence on the suspect’s presence at the busy market.
According to security sources, the suspect, identified as Kachalla Halilu, was sighted at the market at about 12:44 p.m. on June 4. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops moved to the location and apprehended him without resistance or casualties.
Items recovered from the suspect included a motorcycle, a mobile phone, a cap and livestock medication. Military sources said both the suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to intelligence officers for further investigation and necessary action.
The arrest forms part of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and criminal networks operating across Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region, where security forces have intensified offensives against armed groups in recent months.
Security agencies have continued intelligence-driven operations in the region as part of broader efforts to curb banditry, terrorism and related crimes that have affected several communities in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
