Troops of Nigerian Army have rescued an abducted victim and recovered 318 rustled livestock during a major operation targeting terrorist hideouts in Katsina State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operation, conducted under Operation Clean Sweep, involved personnel of the 17 Brigade Strike Group and Quick Response Force, supported by troops from the 8 Division Special Forces as well as the air component of Operation Fansan Yamma. According to the military, the offensive was part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore security across communities in the North-West.
The Army said the operation entered a critical phase on its fourth day when troops launched coordinated clearance missions against terrorist strongholds around Tuga in Matazu Local Government Area. Supported by surveillance assets and precision air strikes, the troops successfully cleared several settlements used by the criminals.
During the raid, troops recovered 36 cattle, 280 sheep and two donkeys, bringing the total number of recovered livestock to 318. Military authorities noted that cattle rustling remains a major source of funding for terrorist and bandit groups operating in the region, making the recovery a significant setback for the criminal elements.
The troops also advanced into the Fafu Forest, where several camps and hideouts were destroyed through coordinated air and artillery strikes. During the operation, they discovered a hideout linked to a notorious terrorist leader and rescued Nura Yar’Adua, a kidnapped victim who was found in chains. He was provided immediate medical attention and evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, for further treatment.
Military authorities added that evidence from the operation indicated significant enemy casualties and the destruction of logistics facilities used by the terrorists.
The Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal groups and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
