Two suspected informants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed by troops of Operation Hadin Kai while attempting to cross into Nigeria from Cameroon through the Banki border area of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to reports, the suspects were intercepted during a night patrol after troops observed suspicious movement along a route frequently used by insurgents and their collaborators.
The individuals were allegedly attempting to infiltrate Banki town from the Cameroonian side of the border when they were engaged by security forces.
Security sources said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist infiltration, intelligence gathering and espionage activities along Nigeria’s northeastern border corridors. Following the incident, troops carried out a sweep of the area in search of other suspected insurgents but did not make further contact.
The military has continued to intensify surveillance and border security operations in Borno State, particularly around routes known to be used by ISWAP fighters moving between Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
The operation forms part of wider counterterrorism efforts aimed at disrupting the activities, logistics networks and intelligence channels of terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad region.
