Court Fixes Sept 29 For Judgment In Suit Seeking Fresh Probe Of Mohbad’s Death

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed September 29, 2026, to deliver judgment in a suit seeking a fresh police investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), popularly known as Mohbad.

Gatekeepers News reports that the case was filed by the Registered Trustees of the Break the Silence Foundation, which is asking the court to compel the police to reopen and conduct a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
The foundation argues that the earlier investigation did not adequately examine certain leads and individuals who were among the last people to have contact with the singer before his death.

It is seeking an order directing the police to carry out a thorough and impartial reinvestigation and to take action against anyone found culpable if fresh evidence emerges.

The suit lists Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, and Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, as respondents. The court had previously granted the organisation leave to pursue the case and seek judicial review of the police handling of the matter.

Tecall that Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, sparking nationwide outrage and calls for justice. Although investigations, an autopsy, and coroner proceedings have taken place, questions surrounding the cause of his death have remained unresolved, prompting continued legal efforts for a fresh probe.
