An operative of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man dead while attempting to apprehend two individuals involved in a violent altercation in Saki, Oyo State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident reportedly occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday at Ayemojuba Kosigi village near Saki. According to police sources, the matter was reported to the Saki Police Division on Friday by Abdullahi Dogo, chairman of the Miyetti Allah Fulani Association in Saki, who said two Fulani men had engaged in a cutlass fight.
The Amotekun operative, identified as Abdulafeez Alabi, allegedly discharged his firearm accidentally while trying to arrest the two men. The bullet struck one of the men, who died at the scene from the gunshot wound.
Police authorities subsequently arrested Alabi in connection with the incident. Investigators also recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel gun and an expended cartridge from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities say efforts are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and establish whether any further legal action will be taken against the operative.
