Nigerian troops have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday when suspected terrorists attempted to infiltrate and assault troops stationed at FOB Gwashi.
Citing military sources, the publication reported that the soldiers responded with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that forced them to abandon the operation and retreat.
The report added that reinforcement troops from the Forward Operating Bases in Gummi and Bukuyyum were immediately deployed to strengthen the position and support ongoing clearance operations.
According to the sources, troops have since intensified surveillance and area domination while reinforcing defensive positions to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.
No casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter, the report said.
Military sources described the swift response as a demonstration of the troops’ operational readiness and determination to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement within the area.
The report further stated that security forces have sustained aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking the fleeing attackers and maintaining pressure on criminal elements operating across Zamfara State.
