Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker, producer and director Dimbo Atiya has died.
Gatekeepers News reports that this brings an end to a career that left a significant mark on Nollywood, particularly in television and drama production. Reports of his death emerged on Thursday, although the cause of death has not been officially disclosed.
Atiya was widely celebrated for creating and directing acclaimed productions such as Halita, Sons of the Caliphate, The Rishantes, Still Falling and The Plan. His work earned him recognition for promoting northern Nigerian culture through contemporary storytelling and helped launch the careers of many actors in the industry.
The filmmaker won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series in 2022 with The Rishantes, cementing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading television producers. Over the course of his career, he produced more than 500 television episodes and several feature films.
