All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 13 chairmanship seats in the Ebonyi State local government elections held across the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) conducted the elections on Saturday across the state’s 13 local government areas and 171 wards. EBSIEC chairman, Enyi Patrick, declared APC candidates winners of all the chairmanship positions as well as the councillorship seats across the 171 wards.
Among the winners is Osborn Nweze Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi. His victory was recorded as part of the APC’s sweep of the chairmanship contests across the state.
EBSIEC said the election was peaceful, with the commission declaring the results after voting across the local government areas.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the election, describing it as a contest involving only one political party. The party’s publicity secretary in Ebonyi, Darlington Onwe, alleged that EBSIEC and the state government failed to provide conditions for genuine participation by all registered political parties.
The outcome gives APC control of all 13 local government chairmanship positions in Ebonyi.
