Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gatekeepers News reports that Sylva announced his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
He said the decision followed consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and supporters.
The former governor also criticised the current direction of the APC, saying the party had departed from the principles and ideals that informed its formation.
His resignation comes amid reports linking him to an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Security authorities have reportedly declared him wanted in connection with the alleged coup plot, although the allegation has not been established as fact.
Sylva’s exit from APC comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
