Sokoto Govt – ASUU Meet Over Outstanding Allowances

Sokoto State Ministry of Higher Education has met with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) leadership from Sokoto State University and Shehu Shagari University of Education to address outstanding staff entitlements and discrepancies in allowance payments.

Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting, held on Monday, September 7, 2026, was led by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Maishanu, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Binji.

The ASUU delegation was led by the Sokoto State University branch chairman, Dr. Bello Musa, and other union executives.

Discussions centred on resolved and outstanding entitlements affecting academic staff, including discrepancies in the implementation of the Consolidated University Academic Structure (CONUASS) and the omission of some professional allowances.

Following the meeting, the ministry agreed to conduct a comprehensive review of the grievances presented by the union.

The ministry said its findings and recommendations would subsequently be submitted to the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for consideration and approval.

Maishanu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to staff welfare, open communication and resolving disputes through dialogue and due process.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration to promote industrial harmony and improve the education sector in the state.
