Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season after defeating Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, while Chelsea and Liverpool dropped points in home draws.
Gatekeepers News reports that the reigning champions secured their fourth consecutive league victory to take their tally to 12 points from four matches and move to the top of the table.
Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 58th minute with a curling effort after goalkeeper David Raya had earlier saved a penalty from Sunderland’s Enzo Le Fee.
Bukayo Saka then sealed the victory in stoppage time from the penalty spot after Sunderland defender Reinildo was sent off for a second yellow card.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Hull City. Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea the lead before Mohamed Belloumi turned the game around for Hull. João Pedro later equalised to rescue a point for the hosts.
The result extended Hull’s unbeaten start to the season, with the promoted side collecting eight points from their opening four matches.
Liverpool also failed to secure a home victory after being held to a goalless draw by Fulham at Anfield.
The result left Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola still unbeaten since taking charge but searching for greater attacking sharpness, with the team struggling to create clear-cut opportunities despite their Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid earlier in the week.
The results mean Arsenal are the only one of the three title contenders to collect maximum points from Saturday’s fixtures, while Chelsea and Liverpool were forced to settle for a share of the points.
