The Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar, has delivered 751 newly produced passports to Nigerian applicants following a special passport intervention exercise.
Gatekeepers News reports that the exercise, which was conducted between August 11 and 21, 2026, was aimed at addressing passport applications and improving consular services for Nigerians living in Qatar.
The 751 applicants comprised 441 people who applied for five-year passports and 310 who applied for 10-year passports.
The embassy began distributing the completed passports on September 18, less than a month after the biometric capture exercise ended.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mahmood Yakubu, described the development as a significant milestone in the mission’s consular services, noting that applicants were receiving their passports about two weeks after biometric capture.
He said passports were important to Nigerians for international travel, employment, residency and other official requirements, adding that the embassy would continue working to provide services to citizens in a timely and transparent manner.
The development followed targeted passport intervention exercises organised by the Nigeria Immigration Service in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives.
The NIS said 8,552 Nigerians had been enrolled across intervention exercises in the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom. Qatar accounted for 751 applicants, while 535 were enrolled in the US and 2,257 in Canada. The ongoing UK exercise had enrolled 5,099 Nigerians as of Monday.
The Immigration Service said the interventions were designed to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in the diaspora and improve access to timely passport issuance and renewal.
