Nigeria’s Flamingos have won the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls’ Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final match of the tournament in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victory completed a perfect campaign for Nigeria, who won all five of their matches to finish at the top of the standings and claim the regional title.
Captain Chidera Harmony was instrumental in the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot. She opened the scoring in the 15th minute after Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was brought down inside the box.
Harmony doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 35th minute, again converting from the spot after Adegbuyi was fouled in the penalty area.
The Flamingos took their 2-0 lead into the break and continued to control proceedings after the restart. Substitute Oluebube Umejiaku added Nigeria’s third goal in the 67th minute with a fine finish.
Adegbuyi, who had earned both penalties, completed the scoring in the 89th minute to give Nigeria a convincing 4-0 victory.
The triumph capped a strong tournament for coach Akeem Busari’s side. Nigeria had earlier defeated Niger Republic 5-0, Ghana 4-2, Burkina Faso 2-0 and hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 before their final-day victory over Togo.
The Flamingos’ victory also comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, which is scheduled to begin next month.
With five wins from five matches, Nigeria finished the WAFU-B tournament unbeaten and lifted the regional trophy in impressive fashion.
