A bandit kingpin, Kachalla Mu’azu, and six members of his gang have reportedly been killed in a clash with a rival armed group in Zamfara State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area of the state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, reported the incident, citing security sources. It said the identities of the six other gang members killed in the confrontation had not been immediately established.

“Mu’azu and his associates were reportedly returning from Yankara Market when they were ambushed by members of a rival armed group who had laid in wait along their route,” Makama said.

“The ensuing confrontation resulted in the deaths of Mu’azu and six of his associates.”

The publication described Mu’azu as a prominent bandit commander allegedly linked to criminal activities and attacks affecting communities in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara State, as well as neighbouring Katsina State.

According to Makama, his reported death could have implications for the activities of armed groups operating around the Gusau axis.

However, it remains unclear whether the killing will trigger any immediate changes in the security situation in the affected areas.

Security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the area and establish further details about the reported clash and the rival armed groups involved.
