One worker sustained minor injuries after a five-storey building under construction collapsed on Durban Street, Wuse II, in Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, October 17, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirming that no life was lost.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NEMA said its Abuja Operations Office received an alert about the incident at approximately 6:30 p.m. and immediately activated relevant emergency responders, including the FCT Fire Service.

The agency also deployed its AYA Emergency Response Ambulance Bay team to coordinate search and rescue operations at the scene.

According to NEMA, preliminary findings indicated that the incident involved a five-storey building under construction that had been partially pulled down.

The injured worker was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The incident comes amid a series of building collapses recorded in the Federal Capital Territory in recent months.

In September, a three-storey building in Wuse Zone 4 collapsed hours after occupants were issued a quit notice by the FCT Administration’s Department of Development Control over concerns about the structure.

In May, at least five people were killed and several others injured when a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Durumi 3, near Gudu Market, Abuja.

Following the May incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered a full investigation into the collapse and warned developers to comply with building regulations and allow government officials to inspect construction sites.
