Chude Jideonwo Reveals Why He Wrote His Will At 30

Nigerian media personality Chude Jideonwo has revealed that he wrote his will at the age of 30 or 31 after reflecting on his mortality, family responsibilities and the legacy he wanted to leave behind.

Gatekeepers News reports that Jideonwo made this known during an appearance on the Beyond With Ezinne podcast, where he discussed how journaling helped him understand himself and make important decisions about his life.

Jideonwo said he began journaling extensively in 2015 after being diagnosed with clinical depression and starting therapy.

He explained that his therapist advised him to document his thoughts, fears, insecurities and relationships, an exercise that prompted him to examine the things that mattered most to him.

“After being diagnosed with clinical depression, I started therapy, and my therapist told me to journal. So, in 2015, I journaled like a mad person, writing about things and people I love, how I like to be loved, things I’m insecure about, and the six things I’m afraid of,” he said.

The media entrepreneur said the exercise led him to consider the worst that could happen if his fears materialised, eventually prompting him to reflect on death and the provisions he wanted to make for his loved ones.

“I wrote my will in 2015 or 2016, when I was 30 or 31 because thought about what I wanted to leave for my mother and the NGO I contribute to,” he said.

Jideonwo also disclosed that the self-reflection process helped him reconsider his views on marriage and parenthood, revealing that he realised he did not want to have children despite being an only child.

He acknowledged that his decision could change in the future, noting that recognising his preference did not necessarily mean he would never have a child.

“It’s a big thing to realise as a human being and an only child, especially as the only child of a mother I love dearly and want to do everything for. It doesn’t mean I will act on it. I might still decide to have a child,” he added.

The media personality’s reflections also influenced his professional choices, making him more selective about the businesses, speaking engagements and opportunities he accepts.

Jideonwo said the process helped him prioritise activities he genuinely enjoys rather than pursuing opportunities solely for financial gain.
